Job Purpose: Perform all general histology functions for support and production activities in histology lab. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 12-8:30pm with pay differential, open to hours of 10am-6:30pm if candidate prefers.

Key Responsibilities

Accessioning of tissue specimens
Assisting Pathologist Assistants/Techs
Processing and embedding tissue specimens
Microtomy and staining tissue sections
Evaluating and recommending adjustments for processes and procedures as part of quality assurance
Maintaining equipment in accordance with defined policies and protocols, and logging preventive and remedial maintenance of equipment.
Preparing solutions and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures
Complies with all laboratory policies and procedures, OSHA and CLIA regulations
Following all OSHA and lab safety guidelines and maintains a safe and clean environment by the daily cleaning of work areas, cleaning up spills and all other duties necessary to sustain an appropriate work area

Education and/or Experience:

Associate degree as a Histology Technician.
One year minimum of Histology experience is required.
Special stains and immunohistochemistry experience is a plus.

Role is responsible for preparing and processing tissue specimens for microscopic examination in a Mohs surgery setting. Key responsibilities include tissue preparation, quality control, and equipment maintenance, with a focus on precision and adherence to safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Receive, label, and log tissue specimens from Mohs surgeries
Prepare tissue sections using appropriate techniques, such as freezing, embedding, and cutting
Stain tissue sections using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and other stains as needed
Examine stained tissue sections under a microscope to identify and evaluate the presence of cancer cells
Document findings and communicate results to the Mohs surgeon in a timely manner
Ensure the accuracy and quality of laboratory results by following established protocols and quality control procedures
Properly maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, including microscopes, cryostats, and staining machines
Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including specimen logs, staining records, and quality control data

Responsibilities:

Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures.
Perform all routine histology functions that support the production of microscopic
slides for interpretation by the Mohs surgeon.
Accession tissue specimens, section frozen tissue using a cryostat, process and
embed tissue specimens, perform microtomy and staining, prepare solutions and
stains, and perform quality control procedures.
Assess integrity of specimens for testing and processing, verifying correct patient
identification and using safe and secure specimen handling.
Evaluate results for accuracy and resolve test problems.
Perform and document required instrument maintenance, and quality control; take
appropriate remedial action.
Ensure accurate record keeping and appropriate retention.
Complete quality assurance forms for equipment and procedures according to CLIA regulations.

Qualifications\Skills:

Education

Associate’s Degree or higher.
HT or HTL certified.
