To all Histology Friends/Colleagues,
It is with deep sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear friend
and colleague, Pam Hesch on July 15, 2023. The news of her passing has been difficult for all
who knew her.
Pam was an extraordinary individual who touched the lives of many, both personally and
professionally. She was an outstanding Histotechnologist, who was a continuous supporter of
the field, as well as an astounding mentor to all. I personally valued her knowledge and
expertise from the first time I met her over 30 years ago at an NSH meeting in Philadelphia PA.
We hit it off and she took me under her wing (so to speak), knowing I was a new member of
NSH and to the Conference at that time.
Pam was not just a colleague; she was a treasured friend, a dedicated professional, and a
source of inspiration to all who had the privilege to know her. She contributed immensely to the
Histology Profession, MSH, WHS and NSH, always willing to lend a hand, share knowledge,
and offer encouragement.
In the wake of the tragic loss of our colleague and dear friend, I encourage open and honest
discussions about mental health and well-being, both in our personal lives and within our
workplace. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to a mental health
professional or a trusted individual in your life. There is no shame in seeking help, and there are
resources available to support those in need. We must be there for one another and remove the
barriers that prevent open dialogue about mental health.
Pam was a true friend and confidant who will be missed by all who knew her. She was like a
sister to me, and I will forever have a hole in my heart. I will miss our numerous phone calls
and lunch meetings. I am sure all who knew her will agree, we will forever remember her smile
and welcoming hug whenever we would see each other.
Pam is survived by her siblings, Peggy, Candy, Kathy, Robin, Mary Jo, Joe and Michael and her
partner of many years Carol. Please remember them in your thoughts and prayers as they
grieve during this difficult time.
With great sadness,
Bob Brunner
