Histology Lab Manager

At Rapid City Medical Center, we’re seeking a Histology Lab Manager to join our team. This position is a Bench Support Position with management oversight of laboratory staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Direct daily supervision of the activities of lab staff
  • Technical troubleshooting of equipment
  • Embedding, microtomy, gross tissue dissection, processing, and staining
  • Routine and special staining
  • Function as a liaison between histology lab and staff members
  • Promote efficient workflow
  • Fast turnaround times and improvements in the overall quality assurance throughout the histology lab
  • Monitor and update as needed all policy and procedure manuals for the department
  • Monitor compliance with all procedural, safety and personnel policies established by the company and other regulatory agencies
  • Maintain professional growth and assist in quality improvement initiatives by keeping abreast with new technologies
  • Oversee department inventory of supplies—and invoices.

REQUIREMENTS

  • ASCP HT Certification
  • Qualified under CLIA 88 regulations to perform tissue gross dissection **
  • Minimum two years Histology Laboratory experience, preferably in Dermatology Setting
  • Excellent communication skills-including verbal, written and computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Gross dissection skills-will train

** Minimum requirements are 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, incudes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND at least three months of documented laboratory training.

  • Completion of a Histology program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or minimum of one (1) year experience as a full-time Histology Technician Trainee and competent in the areas of fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, grossing, special stains, immunohistochemistry, and lab operations.

  • Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms

Bonus points if you’ve got:

  • 2+ years of laboratory training or experience in a high volume laboratory with documented special stain and immunohistochemistry experience

Histology Technician and Histotechnologist

M Health Fairview

A note from the Leader:

At M Health Fairview our histology technicians work as part of a diverse team to produce high quality slides for microscopic evaluation. Our team members rotate through a variety of responsibilities including embedding, microtomy, routine hematoxylin and eosin staining, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and whole slide imaging. We serve a diverse patient population including pediatric and transplant patients and work with a variety of tissue types including kidney, liver, prostate, and G.I. biopsies, bone marrows, cell blocks, dermatology specimens, and routine surgical cases. We encourage our team members' continued growth and development by offering opportunities for involvement in ongoing assignments and process improvement work.

Histotechnologist:

The Histotechnologist (HTL) functions independently in performing a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The HTL correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The HTL collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The HTL writes procedures and participates in laboratory performance improvement and quality assurance activities.

The minimum pay rate for Histotechnologist is $30.11 per hour.

This position is eligible for a $3,000 sign on bonus!

Histology Technician:

The Histology Technician plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional laboratory services to diverse populations within an integrated healthcare environment. The Histology Technician performs the work necessary for the production of microscopic preparations used for high complexity testing, performs routine and specialty procedures, correlates data-based knowledge of technical and instrumental conditions affecting preparation results and performs quality control procedures within established parameters. This position also may be involved in assisting pathology staff in specimen collection, safe and secure specimen handling, ensuring efficient workflow as appropriate. The HT works independently under general supervision.

The minimum pay rate for Histology Technician is $26.02 per hour.
